Responsibilities

POSITION OVERVIEW
 
The Assistant Controller will be primarily responsible for performing and overseeing the accounting operations and financial reporting of Related Beal’s operating portfolio. The Assistant Controller will serve as an accounting expert and facilitator of internal and external reporting, accounting and cash management activities.  This role will work across all levels of the accounting and property management teams and will also involve close collaboration with the development accounting team on properties that transition between operations and development. The ideal candidate is highly entrepreneurial and a self-motivated person who thrives in a dynamic work environment and demonstrates a flexible and adaptable work style that responds quickly and efficiently under tight deadlines. The Assistant Controller will report to the Controller and be based in our Boston office.
 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide direction and guidance to the Property Accounting team as they perform their duties to ensure timely, accurate and consistent delivery
  • Prepare, review and oversee the timely delivery of monthly and annual accounting activities, billing, cash management and accounts payable
  • Partner with onsite Property Management teams in all aspects of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, tenant collections and CAM reconciliations
  • Prepare and review monthly workpaper packages and reconciliations
  • Ensure monthly, quarterly and annual lender reporting requirements are met
  • Analyze and review accounting processes for improvement
  • Implement efficient and effective financial and internal control processes
  • Mentor the accounting team for future advancement and provide day to day leadership, guidance, motivation and support
  • Collaborate with Controller and other business executives on monthly cash flow forecasting
  • Coordinate activities with Development Accounting, Corporate Accounting, Tax and FP&A departments
  • Support the implementation of system enhancements, including the accounting system convergence to JD Edwards, and continue enhancing automation of all accounting processes
  • Assist with quarterly and year-end tax, cash and GAAP reporting, including external audit requirements
  • Participate in acquisition and financing due diligence efforts, as needed
  • Assist Controller with special projects, as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, CPA required
  • Ideal candidate will have 6+ years of public accounting and industry experience; real estate industry experience a plus, but not required
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel
  • A mature professional with excellent judgment, interpersonal skills and ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
  • Superior organizational skills, must be detail oriented and have the ability to multitask
  • Knowledge of JD Edwards and Yardi or other property management related software a plus
